Overview

Restaurante Aurora offers an authentic taste of Brazilian cuisine with a strong Portuguese influence, nestled in the vibrant Humaitá neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro. The restaurant’s charm begins with its decor, which transports guests to the streets of Lisbon through warm, rustic elements that create an inviting atmosphere ideal for both casual lunches and intimate dinners.

The menu highlights showcase a rich diversity of traditional dishes and comfort foods, each crafted with care and local ingredients. Standouts include the Picadinho Aurora, a hearty Brazilian beef stew, and the Arroz de Polvo, delivering tender octopus paired perfectly with seasoned rice. Bacalhau à Lagareiro captures the essence of Portuguese seafood culture, while the Frango à Parmegiana and File Mignon add variety for those seeking classic meat dishes. The dessert selections, like Pudim de Leite and Churros, provide a sweet conclusion reminiscent of both Brazilian and Iberian culinary traditions.

Beer lovers will appreciate the well-curated selection of cervejas, complementing the flavors on the plate and adding to the convivial mood of the space. The service, often praised for its friendliness and attentiveness, strives to balance thoroughness with efficiency—an area noted by some guests as needing refinement during busy service hours, especially around lunchtime.

The portion sizes tend to be generous, common in Brazilian dining, making it a practical choice for sharing or for a hearty single meal. Several customers observed that dishes like the feijoada, a staple of local comfort food, could comfortably serve more than one person, reinforcing the restaurant’s value proposition.

In sum, Restaurante Aurora thrives on delivering a multisensory experience rooted in Brazilian-Portuguese culinary heritage. Its location in Humaitá makes it accessible for both locals and visitors eager to explore Rio’s rich food scene. The blend of authentic dishes, charming decor, and a relaxed yet vibrant atmosphere positions Aurora as an excellent choice for those who appreciate traditional flavors served with warmth and sincerity.

Nice food, good prices. Just back to business so staff still needs to improve (speedup)

I was there with a friend, and we ordered a feijoada, which is a traditional local dish. While the taste was decent, I was surprised by the portion size! The waiter mentioned that the plate was intended for one person, but I believe it could easily serve at least two people. We paid 49 reais for the dish, plus drinks.

Good feijoada, despite the weird choice of meat in it. The service was friendly, but the server insisted we order three feijoadas for six people, when in fact two were more than enough.
